PINE BLUFF – The main building of the Gov. Mike Huckabee Delta Rivers Nature Center will be closed to the public beginning Sept. 4 to perform maintenance to the center’s displays and infrastructure. The closure is expected to last until Oct. 5.
Jason Hooks, facility director for the center, says the exhibits will not be redone or remodeled, and that most of the work will take place outside. However, for public safety, the building will be closed during the project.
“We will be working on the archery range, trails, aquarium and other smaller projects as well as the interior of the building,” Hooks said. “We need to get many things addressed before we head into our busiest time of the year with hunter education classes and school programming.”
Two events scheduled for September will still be conducted on the grounds of the center – the plant swap on Sept. 8, and the center’s annual Marksmanship Challenge Sept. 15.
“Both events will be held outside, and are great experiences for the whole family,” Hooks said.
Hooks says the center will not be able to accommodate groups during the maintenance, but educators interested in programming can contact the office and request presenters to visit their school with informative programs on wildlife, hunting, fishing and conservation.
