September issue of Arkansas Wildlife magazine hits mailboxes
ON 09-04-2025

LITTLE ROCK — Consider the September/October issue of Arkansas Wildlife the segue from the heat of summer to cooler fall weather and hunting seasons.
Every issue of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission magazine is packed with information and entertainment, although this one often has more variety than usual. For instance, our reporters bring us up to date on damage done by an April flood that struck Jim Hinkle Spring River State Fish Hatchery, as well as the rededication of the improved Joe Hogan State Fish Hatchery in Lonoke.
Speaking of fisheries, read about the new Arkansas Legacy Lunker program that kicks off in 2026, and progress made on Lake Wilhelmina’s renovation.
Meanwhile, the spring eastern wild turkey harvest continues to climb; we have that news covered, too.

Read about teams from Bald Knob and Sheridan that took home first-place trophies from the burgeoning Youth Shooting Sports program. We also have news about education programs that are bringing conservation and the outdoors into classrooms.
And let’s not forget that a new commissioner was appointed in July as a veteran commissioner completed his seven-year run.
That’s an overview of what this issue holds but there’s so much more – from a fresh dove recipe in the cooking column to a wildlife management area that’s under most readers’ radar.
