Join the build at Beaver Lake

ROGERS — The AGFC and Hook, Line and Sinker Outdoors are looking for volunteers interested in improving the fishing at Beaver Lake in Northwest Arkansas. They will host another round of Beaver Lake Habitat days Friday and Saturday, Oct, 14-15 to sink trees in the upper end of the lake in the Joe Creek area.
Volunteers will help load trees onto barges, tie blocks and sink the trees in Beaver Lake to create new fish attractors and freshen up older attractors that have a history of producing well. Each volunteer should dress for the weather and work. Bring some lunch, a life jacket, sunscreen, work gloves and wear work boots (no sandals). Anyone interested should contact Jon Stein, AGFC regional fisheries supervisor, at email@example.com or text 479-640-6422.
Volunteers will meet at the Horseshoe Bend Boat Ramp (by the marina, coordinates: 36.290149, -94.020413) at 8 a.m. The group will be working until 3 p.m. each day, and staff will take volunteers to different work sites by boat from the ramp.
The effort is part of the Reservoir Fish Habitat Project funded in 2021-22. The AGFC worked with the Beaver Watershed Alliance and more than a dozen partners to obtain grants from the National Fish Habitat Partnership, the Fish America Foundation and Bass Pro Shops to complete a major fish habitat project on Beaver Lake. The total amount of the project is more than $330,000.
Beaver Watershed Alliance worked earlier this year with the AGFC Stream Team to complete a bank stabilization project in a creek in Beaver Lake’s watershed. The work improved fish habitat in Beaver Lake by reducing sediment and excessive nutrients from getting into the lake. This additional habitat work next week will give sport fish more cover and continue to improve the lake’s angling opportunities.
