
Landowner meetings clear way for wildlife habitat enhancement

EL DORADO — Landowners and representatives from timber companies, non-profit organizations and state agencies representing more than 1.1 million acres of private land in southern Arkansas collaborated during June workshops in Hope and El Dorado to improve habitat for turkey, quail and other wildlife in Arkansas.

MURFREESBORO — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will hold a special workshop for landowners on how to manage their farm ponds for fish at a free workshop at the in Murfreesboro from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 18. The meeting will be held in the Murfreesboro City Hall Community Room at 204 East Main Street.

Learn to catch crappie at Cook’s Lake

Many anglers only target crappie in spring, but good fishing for Arkansas’s most sought after panfish can be had all year. LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, in cooperation with Quail Forever and the Arkansas Forestry Association, will be hosting special workshops for land managers on how and when to use fire to promote better wildlife habitat on their property. Workshops are scheduled for Malvern, Mountain View and Ash Flat in the next few weeks, and more will be scheduled as the year goes on.
