Little Red River

Built in 1964, Greers Ferry Dam is located on the Little Red River in Cleburne County, Arkansas. It was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood control and hydroelectric power generation, and the resulting coldwater discharge created a habitat that was less suitable for native sportfish species. To mitigate this, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission began stocking trout into the Greers Ferry Tailwater in 1966, and the river is now home to the current 4-pound test line class world record brown trout of 40 pounds, 4 ounces caught in 1992.
