Regarded as the largest community fishing event in Arkansas, “The Big Catch” returns to Little Rock’s MacArthur Park on Saturday, Sept. 16.

The Community First Alliance Inc. and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Family and Community Fishing Program have partnered to provide families with a day full of free fun, food, games and prizes. Besides free fishing, other activities include archery and BB gun shooting along with a community health fair with free cancer screenings.

And, you can also learn how to cook fish as demonstrated by the experts. All you need to show up with is your own fishing gear. Don’t even worry about lunch; it is provided free.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (registration begins at 8:30 a.m.), and the event also includes a fishing clinic at the Witt Stephens Jr. Central Arkansas Nature Center on Thursday, Sept. 14, from 6-7:30 p.m. Registration is required for the clinic (call 501-907-0636 to sign up), but like “The Big Catch” it is free and presented by the AGFC.
