Hundreds of tagged catfish have been stocked into the this year, and many tags still are out there. Any angler who turns in one of these tags is eligible for a prize. One lucky angler will be drawn for $1,500 in prizes, a two-night stay for up to 14 people at Rick Evans Grandview Prairie Education Center to enjoy fishing, canoeing, archery and trap shooting. The live drawing will be televised on the evening news on KTHV (Channel 11) in Little Rock, Nov. 16.
The Family and Community Fisheries Program enhances and creates destinations in urban areas, so excellent fishing is available within a stone’s throw of all Arkansans.
In addition to habitat improvements, we stock many community ponds with channel catfish in summer and rainbow trout in winter. We hold fishing events, beginner fishing clinics and tagged fish contests at selected cities throughout the year.
Thousands of pounds of 13- to 15-inch channel catfish are stocked every two to four weeks at all Community Fishing Destinations from March through October. A list of additional fish stockings for fishing derbies may be found at the link below.
More than 65,000 catchable-sized rainbow trout are stocked each winter from November through March across the state in Family and Community Fishing Program destinations. While most trout average just under a pound, a few 2-5 pounders are stocked each year. Most locations are stocked on a bi-weekly or monthly basis.
