ATV Safety Education
Supporting ATV Fun and Safety For All Ages
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is proud to announce a new ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) safety education course for K-12 students across the state.
Most riders finish the online course in 45 minutes, with the ability to work through each lesson at their own pace. Students will need to complete all lessons and pass the final knowledge check to earn their Certificate of Completion.
A hands-on extension to this course will be available at nature centers across the state through the fall. Further resources will be available through our Learning Management System for educators, along with a 1-hour introduction available later this month.
The course is broken into 11 short lessons, each lesson covering a different aspect of safe riding, such as:
- Identify the different types of off-highway vehicles and how each is designed to be used
- Match the right machine to the right rider based on age, size, and experience
- Complete a pre-ride inspection using the T-CLOC checklist
- Select the right protective gear and explain what each piece protects
- Use proper body position for different riding situations
- Spot hazards before they become problems using the SIPDE method
- Ride responsibly in hunting, fishing, and natural areas
- Know the Arkansas laws and AGFC regulations that apply to ATV use
Arkansas Outdoor Safety Graduation Cord
High school seniors who demonstrate a superior commitment to responsible recreation by completing certifications in Hunter Education, Boater Education and the ATV Safety Education program will earn the opportunity to purchase a Jostens™ cord to be worn at their graduation ceremony.
Cords are not paid for by AGFC or Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas. Each school or student is responsible for the purchase of their cord and can be purchased from their school’s Jostens™ representative.
