LITTLE ROCK — The tagged trout program that has been running since Thanksgiving in Family and Community Fishing Program Ponds will be coming to a close at the end of February.
RUSSELLVILLE - Crappie anglers on Lake Dardanelle may be able to win more than a fish dinner if they notice a special yellow tag behind the dorsal fin of fish they catch in the next few months. Fisheries biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission have been busy netting and tagging several hundred crappie with special reward tags as part of a study on the crappie fishery this year.
HUGHES – Horseshoe Lake, an oxbow once part of the Mississippi River in eastern Arkansas, has long been noted for good crappie production, but recent studies have shown a mostly smaller, younger fish population. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is in the second year of a tagged crappie study to determine the cause of crappie mortality, and anglers can help.
