LITTLE ROCK — Hunters in Arkansas have enjoyed nearly 4,500 acres of new hunting opportunity during the 2020-21 hunting seasons, thanks to partnerships and leases by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission in the last year.

LITTLE ROCK – The 2020-21 Arkansas deer seasons are winding to a close with only late-season archery archers visiting the woods for some solitude and a last chance to harvest a deer before the season ends Feb. 28 deadline. There’s plenty of time, however, for hunters to apply to be in one of Arkansas’s elite hunting circles — the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Triple Trophy Award.

JASPER — A team researching chronic wasting disease in white-tailed deer in the heart of the area where it is most prevalent in Arkansas will begin capturing and monitoring deer in January.

Arkansans looking for one last chance to bag a deer at the end of the season this year will have three additional days to take a doe after the Modern Gun Christmas Holiday Hunt to fill their tag. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission unanimously voted in May to move the Private Land Antlerless Only Deer Hunt from the middle of October to the last days of December in hopes to increase participation in the hunt.

JONESBORO — Arkansas is in the midst of deer season, and skillets are sizzling with the sound of a floured piece of backstrap cooking in grease. Alongside the backstrap will likely be a skillet of fried potatoes. As soon as the backstrap is done, a bit of flour will hit the grease, followed by some milk to brew up some gravy to cover the venison and accompany some biscuits cooking in the oven.

LITTLE ROCK — Hunters headed to deer camp to get things ready for opening weekend of modern gun deer season may want to make a quick pit stop to fuel up at their local Hardee’s restaurant. Every Hardee’s restaurant in Arkansas will give a free sausage biscuit to anyone who shows their valid hunting license to the cashier from 5-11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11.
