2017-18 Fishing Regulations – Adoption of fishing regulations, to become effective on January 1, 2018, including, but not limited to:
- Amend regulations for game fish daily limits for trout on Bull Shoals and Norfork Tailwaters to designate exceptions that will: (1) allow the daily harvest of only one trout (Brown, Cutthroat, Brook, or Rainbow) longer than 14 inches in length in compliance with specific minimum length limits for Brown, Cutthroat, Brook, and Rainbow Trout; (2) implement a 24-inch minimum length limit for Cutthroat Trout, with a daily limit of only one; and (3) implement a 14-inch minimum length limit for Brook Trout, with a daily limit of only one.
- Amend regulations for specific trout waters to: (1) implement restriction on Bull Shoals and Norfork Tailwaters for use of only one hooking point per pole when fishing with bait; (2) extend the existing Rim Shoals catch-and-release area (near Cotter) downstream approximately two miles to the mouth of Dry Creek, as indicated by signs; and (3) eliminate the existing Monkey Island catch-and-release area (between Reds Landing Access and Chesmond Ferry Access).
- Also, to become effective on December 1, 2017, and run through February 28, 2018, amend regulations for commercial fishing restrictions in certain waters to open a special commercial fishing season on Old River Lake in Pulaski County to reduce rough fish. This includes requiring commercial fishermen to register prior to fishing with the local district fisheries biologist at the Brinkley Regional Office, submit monthly catch records, and remove all species of carp and all rough fish, excluding Alligator Gar (Alligator Gar must be released back into the lake), and waives the existing 16-inch minimum length limit for Buffalo.
