Name:Purple Gallinule
Family:Early Migratory Birds
Scientific Name: Porphyrio martinica
Habits and Habitat:Purple gallinules prefer dense freshwater marshes.
Habit:The long toes of purple gallinules spreads their weight so efficiently that they can walk and stand on lily pads without sinking.
The purple gallinule is much more secretive than common moorhens. Although their striking purple-and-green plumage might seem easy to spot, gallinules are masters at hiding in vegetation lining the shore.
