| Gallinago gallinago | | Habits and Habitat: | Snipe are found in Arkansas wetlands during fall as they migrate south. They are particularly fond of areas with abundant fish farms, as many ponds are drained in winter offering ideal feeding habitat. Snipe are also abundant around flooded rice fields. | | Habit: | Although "snipe hunting" is a common practical joke among high-school and college students, snipe offer exceptional sport and are as difficult to target as dove on the wing. | | Description: | Snipe are often overlooked, but waterfowl hunters have been known to switch targets and chase them on days when the duck hunting is slow. Hunters liken their taste to that of a dove.
