Habits and Habitat:Moorhens prefer freshwater and brackish marshes. Populations in the eastern United States are somewhat migratory, but Arkansas populations are typically residents.
Habit:Moorhens typically feed on vegetation while swimming. They are much more tolerant of people than their cousin, the purple gallinule
Description:
Moorhens are one of many marsh birds found in Arkansas. Although they are easy to identify, they can be hard to find among the reeds and lily pads lining the water they call home.
