Name:Speckled Pocketbook
Species:Lamsilis streckeri
Federal Listing:Endangered; February 28, 1989
Speckled pocketbooks occur only in a six-mile stretch of the Middle Fork of the Little Red River. Water pollution from a tributary stream may be endangering this last-known population. At one time, speckled pocket books occurred throughout most of the Little Red River system, but impoundment of Greers Ferry Lake destroyed much of their habitat. Channel modifications for flood control in the Little Red's Archey and South forks wiped out the species in those two streams.
