This three-to four-inch mussel formerly occurred in the Ouachita River near Arkadelphia, but habitat is no longer suitable in this river due to upstream impoundments, siltation and pollution. Ouachita rock-pocketbooks are currently known within Arkansas only from the Little River drainage in Sevier and Little River counties. Another population inhabits the Kiamichi River in Oklahoma.
