Cities with 2011-2012 Urban Hunts
The following cities will host urban archery hunts in the 2011-2012 season:
- Bull Shoals (Sept. 5-Nov. 11, 2011 and Jan. 1-31, 2012)
- Cherokee Village (Sept. 5-Nov. 11, 2011 and Jan. 1-31, 2012)
- Fairfield Bay (Sept. 5-Nov. 11, 2011 and Jan 1-31, 2012)
- Heber Springs (Sept. 5-Nov. 11, 2011 and Jan. 1-31, 2012)
- Horseshoe Bend (Sept. 5-Nov. 11, 2011 and Jan. 1-31, 2012)
- Hot Springs Village (Sept. 24-Oct. 8, 2011)
- Lakeview (Sept. 5-Nov. 11, 2011 and Jan. 1-31, 2012)
Urban Deer Hunt Application Requirements
A drawing will not be conducted for these hunts, instead hunters will be issued an urban archery permit if they:
- Return an official application postmarked by Aug. 1, 2011.
- Pass the International Bowhunter Education Program course before attending the urban hunt orientation.
- Attend the urban hunt orientation for the hunts for which they are applying.
- Pass a shooting proficiency test at the orientation.
- Are 16 or older.
- Do not have 12 or more violations points under the AGFC violations points system.
Urban Deer Hunt Orientation
Applicants must complete the urban hunt orientation for each hunt in which they will participate. Orientation dates and locations are:
- Bull Shoals, Cherokee Village, Horseshoe Bend and Lakeview Hunter Orientation – 9 a.m., Aug. 27, 2011, AGFC Calico Rock Regional Office
- Heber Springs and Fairfield Bay Hunter Orientation – 8 a.m., Aug. 20, 2011, Fairfield Bay Municipal Fire and Rescue Center, 101 Little Rock Road, Fairfield Bay, AR 72088
- Hot Springs Village Hunter Orientation – 8 a.m., Aug. 20, 2011, Coronado Center in Hot Springs Village
There is a $40 fee, which includes Arkansas Bowhunters Association membership and covers liability insurance.
Urban Deer Hunt Details
Urban deer hunts are the most effective and least expensive tool to control deer populations in urban areas. They have many extra requirements to keep them safe and socially acceptable. Click each hunt below for a list of special regulations.
How to Apply
Hunters may only apply for urban archery hunts by mail. Call (501) 223-6359 to receive an application by mail. Applications also are available at the AGFC regional office closest to each urban hunt.
