Available Public Land Permits
- 25 public land elk permits will be drawn from online applications at the annual Buffalo River Elk Festival in Jasper, June 23.
- Three public land elk permits (one either sex and two antlerless) will be available only to people who register during the festival. Registration is 1 p.m.-5 p.m., June 22, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., June 23. Applicants must supply a valid AGFC CID# from their hunting license, an Arkansas-issued photo ID or hunter education card (if under 16). The applicant must be present at 7 p.m., June 23 to win this tag.
- One public land elk permit will be granted to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation to raise funds for elk habitat in Arkansas.
- One public land youth elk permit will be granted to the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation for fund-raising purposes.
Public Land Elk Permit Application Requirements
- Public Land Elk Permit Applications may be submitted online May 1-June 1. No paper applications will be accepted.
- Hunters under 16 (as of Sept. 24, 2012) must have a valid hunter education number to apply.
- Applicants must be 6 or older (as of Sept. 24, 2012).
- Applicants with 12 AGFC violation points are ineligible to apply.
- Only Arkansas residents with a Resident Sportsman Hunting License or holders of a Lifetime Sportsman's Permit may apply.
- Duplicate or incomplete applications will not be processed.

Sept. 24-28, 2012 Hunt Permits
- Elk compartment 3 - One either-sex permit
- Elk compartment 4 - One either-sex permit (RMEF Grant Permit)
Oct. 29-Nov. 2, 2012 Hunt Permits
- Elk compartment 3 - Five either-sex elk (two youth permits) permits and eight antlerless permits
- Elk compartment 4 - Two either-sex permits and ten antlerless permits
Private Land Elk Permit Application Requirements
- Private land elk permit applications may be submitted only by mail June 1-July 15. Applications must be postmarked on or before July 15. Call 501-223-6440 to receive a paper application by mail.
- Applications must include a $35 processing fee.
- Hunters under 16 (as of June 1, 2012) must have a valid hunter education number to apply.
- Applicants must be 6 or older (as of Oct. 29, 2012).
- Applicants with 12 AGFC violation points are ineligible to apply.
- Residents and nonresidents may apply for private land elk permits.
- Only one application per hunter will be accepted for private land elk permits.
- Duplicate, illegible or incomplete applications will not be processed.
- Landowners will be contacted to verify an applicant's eligibility.
Private Land Elk Hunt Details
Elk hunting on private land is restricted to one zone, consisting of all private land in Boone, Carroll, Madison, Newton and Searcy counties (except a portion of Boxley Valley).

Oct. 29-Nov. 2, 2012 Private Land Hunt Quota
- Landowners will sign their property up under the Elk Management Assistance Program. Clubs will be issued one either-sex permit and a series of antlerless permits based on the acreage of the club property. The minimum number of permits per club (for properties less than 500 acres) will be one either-sex and two antleless permits. Permits will be issued to the designated club leader and will be transferable. Permits will only be valid within the boundary of the EMAP club.
- Private land hunting must end by 2 p.m. each day.
- Private land elk hunters must call 800-440-1477 each night and listen for the correct numeric prompt for updates on the number of elk harvested.
- The hunt will end Nov. 2, or the evening that the 34 elk quota (8 bulls, 26 antlerless) is met; whichever comes first.
