The second drawing for the 2008 Spring Turkey Permits has been completed and the notifications were mailed on March 3, 2008.
The deadline to make payments for the permit is March 17, 2008, and the cost is $10 per permit. If you applied online you may pay via the
Internet with a credit card by using the link below. Online applicants may also mail a copy of their notification along with payment if you do not wish to pay online.
If you applied using a paper application then you will need to mail in a payment to the address on the permit or pay at an AGFC office.
If you were drawn to receive a quota (not youth) permit for the Lafayette County WMA or Moro Big Pine WMA, you will also need to purchase a leased land permit prior to the hunt in April.
Permits will be mailed in mid-March.
Quota and Youth Hunt Permits
Quota and youth permit hunts are held on several wildlife management areas. The purposes of these hunts are to better manage turkey populations, improve hunt quality by preventing overcrowding and provide high quality hunting opportunities for youngsters.
Limit is one legal turkey for quota and youth permit hunts. This is not a bonus turkey; it counts as part of the season bag limit. Only permit holders will be allowed to engage in any hunting-related activity on these areas during quota permit hunts. Additional instructions are printed on the permit. If drawn, there is a $10 processing fee.
The youth permit hunts are restricted to youths under 16 as of Dec. 17, 2007. For both the youth permit hunts and the quota permit hunts, youths must have completed a hunter education course and be accompanied by an adult 18 or older. Because these are preseason youth permit hunts, these areas are closed to all other hunting-related activities, including turkey scouting and photography, during the permit hunts.
Application Instructions
The application period was December 17, 2007 through January 17, 2008.
The permit system is a computerized drawing to select applicants who have accumulated the highest number of preference points. Preference points are accumulated by turkey hunt type (quota or youth). Once an applicant’s first choice is drawn and paid for, preference points are reduced to zero for that hunt type. If drawn for a second choice or if a first choice is not paid for, points will remain the same.
Applicants submitting late, incorrect or duplicate applications are disqualified for the current application period and do not receive a preference point for the next year’s hunt, but they do retain previously accumulated points. An applicant does not need to apply every year to keep preference point status.
Applicants who have accumulated 12 or more violation points in the AGFC’s point system for hunting and fishing violations will be disqualified for the current year’s hunt and their preference points will be reduced to zero.
Preference points are accumulated by the applicant’s identification number, which may be a driver’s license, Social Security number or hunter education number.

Wildlife Management Area Special Instructions
Camp Robinson WMA
Participants in the spring turkey season permit hunts and in no other hunting or fishing activities on Camp Robinson are not required to obtain a Camp Robinson Sportsman’s Pass. However, they must sign in and out daily at the Camp Robinson Department of Public Safety, Building 7200, (501) 212-5282. Hunts may change without notice, depending on security levels.
Cut-Off Creek WMA
Hunting ends at 1 p.m. each day.
Dr. Lester Sitzes III Bois D’Arc WMA
The area will be divided into two compartments for these hunts. Permit holders with odd-numbered permits will hunt the west compartment, and permit holders with even-numbered permits will hunt the east compartment.
Lafayette County WMA
Hunters 16 and older must have a Lafayette County Leased Land Permit.
Moro Big Pine WMA
Hunters 16 and older must have a Moro Big Pine Leased Land Permit.
Rex Hancock Black Swamp WMA and Cache River NWR
(Refuge lands within an area bounded by Arkansas Highway 17 on the north and east, Arkansas Highway 38 on the south, and Arkansas Highway 33 on the west). This permit is valid on the wildlife management area and the national wildlife refuge.
A signed, current refuge hunt brochure also is required on refuge lands.
Spring Gobbler Survey
The Wildlife Management Division will conduct a spring gobbler survey in 2008 to gather information on turkey hunter attitudes, hunting parameters and the quality of spring turkey hunting. National Wildlife Refuge Permit Hunts
Felsenthal NWR
Youth hunt: March 29-30. Fifty permits available. Limit one gobbler or bearded turkey.
Quota permit hunts: April 10-12 and April 17-19. Fifty permits available per hunt. Limit one gobbler or bearded turkey.
