2009-10 Cherokee Village Urban Deer Season
Season is open Sept. 8, 2009-Nov. 15, 2009 and Jan. 1-31, 2010.
Archery hunting only. No bag limit. The first deer taken must be a doe. After that, deer of either sex may be taken. Deer taken within the Cherokee Village Urban Deer Zone do not count in the hunter’s seasonal bag limit. The three point rule does not apply to this hunt. Two hundred fifty permits will be issued for the 2009-10 season. Successful applicants must take and pass the International Bowhunter Education Course before attending a hunter orientation class and passing a shooting proficiency test on August 29, 2009 at 8 a.m. at the Baseheart Fire Station in Cherokee Village.
Pick up an application and a list of all regulations at Arkansas Game and Fish Commission headquarters, 2 Natural Resources Dr. in Little Rock or at the AGFC regional offices in Hot Springs, Calico Rock or Russellville. Hunters are required to:
- Pay a $35 annual confirmation fee, which includes membership in the Arkansas Bowhunters Association, for liability insurance purposes.
- Attend an urban hunting information seminar.
- Take and pass the International Bowhunter Education Course.
- Donate their first deer to Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry (A 501C-3 charitable organization).
- Use a longbow, recurve or compound bow with at least a 40-pound pull and broadheads at least 7/8-inch wide (mechanicals OK). Special considerations will be made for disabled hunters in wheelchairs.
- Pass a shooting proficiency test [i.e., three consecutive hunting arrows shot from a legal hunting bow held at full draw by only the archer’s muscles. All three arrows must hit within or cut the line of the heart/lung area of a life-size deer target at a distance set by the test administrator (up to 20 yards)].
- Hunt without the use of string locks.
- Possess a valid Arkansas (resident or nonresident) Sportsman’s License. Hunters must be at least 16 years of age.
- Possess a valid Urban Bowhunting Permit (issued at hunter orientation).
- Possess written permission from the property owner if hunting on private property.
- Keep all bows cased to and from stands.
- Shoot from stands only (no walking, stalking or ground blinds).
- Hunt from stands that are at least 10 feet above the ground.
- Hunt 50 yards off designated trails or parks.
- Hunt at least 50 yards from any occupied dwelling without written permission.
- Bag or cover harvested animals from sight before removing.
- Remove harvested animals during daylight hours if at all possible.
- Check deer at the Baseheart Fire Station in Cherokee Village.
- Display the vehicle permit in full view on the dashboard of their vehicle and carry the approved permit.
