Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry
About Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry
Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry (AHFH) is a community-minded program that provides venison and other wild game to those in need. Organizations, businesses and churches of many denominations have joined farmers and hunters to transform an abundant white-tailed deer population into a renewable food source for the hungry.
AHFH has been responsible for processing more than 1 million servings of meat for soup kitchens and food pantries across Arkansas. These donated animals provide an abundant and nutritious source of protein desperately needed by feeding programs.
Deer: A Great Deal
Feeding agencies say meat is their least available food item because of its high cost. An Arkansas deer will yield about 50 pounds of venison. AHFH can turn this 50 pounds of meat into 200 servings. Even with the high cost of processing, it's the best bargain in Arkansas.
How Venison Is Distributed
All meat is distributed free and is usually donated and used in the same county. It is served at churches, the Salvation Army, children's shelters, rescue missions and community food banks.
Get Involved
Donate venison. Take your legally-tagged, field dressed deer to a participating meat processor. AHFH can pay for processing or the donor may choose to pay for processing to help defray some of the cost. You can also donate a portion of your deer to the program after it has been processed. The processor will store the meat until it's picked up for distribution by a local food bank or feeding agency.
While AHFH is mostly a venison-donation program, they gladly accept other game, such as ducks, rabbits and cleaned fish. They also accept cattle, hogs and other farm animals.
