Beaver Lake Tailwater
Background
Beaver Dam is located on the White River in Carroll County, Arkansas. The dam was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the purposes of flood control and hydroelectric power generation and was the last project to be constructed on the White River. Commercial power generation began in May 1965, although the project was not officially completed until 1966. The resulting Beaver Tailwater flows approximately 7.5 miles through northwest Arkansas before entering Table Rock Lake. Coldwater releases from Beaver Dam created habitat that was less suitable for native sport fish species. To mitigate for the loss of the warmwater fishery, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission began stocking trout into the Beaver Tailwater in 1966. The species currently stocked into the Beaver Tailwater are rainbow trout and brown trout.

Management Plan
In 2005, the AGFC Trout Management Program began the process of developing a comprehensive management plan for the Beaver Tailwater. The purpose of this plan is to establish specific goals and objectives, which will guide the future management of this fishery. Central to the plan development process was an intensive public involvement effort used to help insure that the desires and expectations of the angling public were embodied in plan goals. The management strategies outlined in this plan will be implemented over the next 5 years. In 2011, this plan will be revisited to determine if management objectives were met and to insure that plan goals are still in line with public values and interests.
