Photography Tips for the Angler

When taking pictures of anglers with their catch, the fish should be the main subject framed in the picture.  Don’t take a picture standing above the angler, get on their level and shoot straight at the subject.

If the angler is wearing a hat, have them remove it or push it back to eliminate the shadows caused by a hat brim.

If possible, have the sun to your back where it will be shining on the subject.  Use a fill flash even in daylight to minimize shadows.

Pay attention to the background.

When using a digital camera, use the highest resolution possible to ensure the photo is large enough to print and share digitally.

When taking pictures of kids fishing, take plenty of pictures.  The photos you take when they are young will be even more important when they are grown.  If possible, have the child hold the fish.  They will sometimes be scared of holding the fish but the picture will be worth the trouble of getting them over this fear.
