About the Name:
Ownership: The Casey Jones Leased Lands WMA is owned by Plum Creek, Inc.
Age: The Big Timber Leased Lands WMA was established in 1988.
Purpose: The Casey Jones Leased Lands WMA was established in order to provide hunting and other outdoor recreation opportunities in south Arkansas.
Description: The various tracts provide a diversity of habitat types, including Upland Pine, Upland Pine/ Hardwood Mix, Upland Hardwood, Bottomland Pine/ Hardwood Mix, and Bottomland Hardwood.
Access: The Casey Jones Leased Lands WMA tracts can be accessed via highways and county roads. A Big Timber
Leased Lands WMA map is a must for those not familiar with the area. These maps are available to
those who purchase a Big Timber WMA permit from license dealers, AG&FC Regional Offices, or the
AG&FC License Division in Little Rock.
Hunting
Opportunities:
The Casey Jones Leased Lands WMA offers excellent deer, turkey, and small game hunting opportunities.
Management
Practices:
Most of the tracts are managed intensively for pine and/or hardwood sawtimber. Single tree selection is
the predominant harvesting method. Prescribed fire is also used. These timber management practices
produce excellent wildlife habitat for most game species.
Camping: Designated campsites are located in various areas of the WMA. No electricity or running water is provided.
Safety: As with all WMAs, certain areas can become crowded. All users of the area should practice basic hunter
safety. Those users not familiar with the area should carry a map and compass and should let others
know where they plan to be hunting and when they plan to return.
