Age : Des Arc WMA was created in 1966 after the acquisition of property for the construction of a 320-acre public fishing lake. Opportunities:
Although signs identify a small buffer zone around the immediate area of the lake as being closed to public hunting, lands outside the levee does allow hunting opportunities. Swamp rabbits, deer, ducks and squirrels are the most frequently hunted. Raccoons may be taken and hunting is good to excellent depending upon water levels.
Management
Practices:
The hardwood habitat is managed as other typical bottomland areas. Timber inventories are initiated to
evaluate the vigor and quality of the habitat for wildlife. A management plan will be developed to ensure that the best possible management approach will be initiated. The 320-acre lake is managed by Commission fisheries biologist.
