Location: Th e area is located in St. Francis County. State Highway 306 bisects the northern portion of the management unit. Pine Tree is located in St. Francis County approximately 6 miles West of Colt, Arkansas.

About the Name: The area derived its name from the small farming community of Pine Tree, Arkansas. It was established as a branch experiment station. The University has conducted agricultural experimentation over many years dealing with various research efforts.
Ownership: This 11,850-acre area is owned by the University of Arkansas. The Arkansas Game & Fish Commission has a cooperative agreement with them.
Age: The University received ownership in 1960 from the U.S. Soil Conservation Service.
Purpose: The management area purpose is twofold. One is to experiment in the agricultural field as to various needs of the farming industry. Secondly is to provide under a cooperative effort with the Game & Fish to management
the resource for public use. The WDA is being managed for all species of resident wildlife, along with wintering
migratory species to providing maximum recreational enjoyment to the public.
Description: The 11,850-acre area consist of a diverse habitat of hardwood timber intermixed with fields planted in various crops. Several beaver ponds provide habitat for wintering waterfowl and well as other frequenters of wetland habitats. Large tracts of fescue pasture grounds are established with an occasional small fishing pond providing a water source for wildlife. The area is comprised of approximately 11,850 acres of habitat. 3,940 acres of this total are in forestland, 5,630 in pastureland and 2,280 acres are in cropland.
Access: Access is provided from Highway 306 either from Colt or Hunter Arkansas depending upon direction of travel.
Several St. Francis County roads (107 and 267) transverse the management area. Field roads provide
seasonal access but can become impassable during wet periods.
Hunting
Opportunities:
The management area is regulated by permit quota hunting for deer. Turkey hunting is closed due to stocking efforts. Small game such as rabbits, quail, squirrels and furbearers, doves and ducks presently being hunted under statewide season frameworks.

Practices:
Management initiatives are conducted by a cooperative effort with the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission and
the University of Arkansas. Various wildlife management practices are implemented to enhance habitat diversity to meet the various habitat needs of wildlife. An overall management plan is in the process of being written to address strategies and objectives for all phases of WMA operation. Pine Tree has an established diverse habitat and future management practices may include the establishment of wildlife openings. Planting strips of trees to break up the large fields and planting small plots for recently stocked wild turkey. Quota permits gun deer hunting has been initiated.

Many outdoor opportunities exist for the visiting public. Several fishing lakes located within the WMA provide
fishing. Bird enthusiast can venture into the hardwoods and along the edges of fields and observe an array of
songbirds. Hiking can be experienced using some of the woods roads within the management area.

The town of Colt, Arkansas, approximately 6 miles from Pine Tree, provides several places to enjoy a meal.
Colt also has a small grocery store for your convenience.
