Location: The area is in southeast Drew county approximately 25 miles east of Monticello.

About the Name: Cut-Off Creek WMA is named after the Cut-Off Creek which runs through the area.
Ownership: The area is owned by the commission.
Age: The area was established in 1958.
Purpose: The area was purchased to serve as a public hunting area in southeast Arkansas.
Description: The area is mostly bottomland hardwood with some upland sites. Tree species include willow oak, overcup oak, various red oaks, white oaks and hickories. There is only one major stream which is Cut-Off Creek. There are three major sloughs on the area; Latin Drain, Firehunt Slough and Hathaway Slough.
Access: Access 1: To get to the west side of the area and to campsites 1 and 2, take state highway 35 east from Monticello 15 miles to Collins. Turn right at Collins on Drew county 51. There is an area location sign here at this intersection. Go approximately 5-1/2 miles and a green WMA sign on the left indicates the direction to campsite 1. Go another 4 miles down Drew county 51 and there will be another green WMA sign on the left indicating the direction to campsite 2.

Access 2: To get to the east side of the area and to campsites 3 and 4, take state highway 35 east from Monticello 20 miles to Baxter. Turn right on Drew county 61 which is marked by a location sign. Go 2 to 3 miles and road forks at a pecan grove and take the right fork. Go about 5 miles and watch for a green WMA sign on the right. Take a right at this sign and go about 1-1/2 miles and then take another right at another green WMA sign. road goes to camping area 3. To get to camping area 4, go straight from this sign about 1-1/2 miles to a farm complex. Keep straight here for about another 2-1/2 miles. The road dead ends in the camping area.

Hunting
Opportunities:
Duck hunting is one of the most popular activities on the area. Approximately 2,000 acres are flooded annually for ducks. Mallards are commonly taken as well as wood ducks. Morning hunting only except the last 3 days of the last waterfowl season. No decoys left overnight.

Squirrel hunting is considered good with gray squirrels being the most common.

Deer hunting is fair with an expanding population. Permits are required for the muzzleloading and modern gun hunts.

Furbearers such as the raccoon and mink provide good opportunities for trappers.

Management
Practices:
A habitat management plan was implemented on the area in 1983. The habitat is being improved through selective, unevenaged timber harvests incorporating the creation of wildlife openings. Approximately 1000 acres are being treated every 2 years. The area is on a 20 year cutting cycle. The area has a series of gates and dams for water control for waterfowl habitat manipulation.
Camping:

There are 4 campsites on the area maintained by the commission. These are primitive sites mostly for tents or pull trailer campers. Campsite 1 is in Sect. 29,30 and 32, T 15 S, R 4 W and can hold 200 people. Campsite 2 is in Sect. 12, T 15 S, R 4 W and can hold 100 people. Campsite 3 is in Sect. 28, T 14 S, R 4 W and can hold 30 people. Campsite 4 is in Sect. 4, T 14 S, R 4 W and can hold 30 people. All litter is to be taken out by the users.

There are restaurants and supplies available in Collins, Monticello and Dermott, with motels available in Monticello and Dermott.

Facilities:
There are water pumps available in campsites 1 and 2.
Safety: Some hazards on the area are mosquitoes and cottonmouth snakes. There are no vehicles allowed on roads unless marked as open. Firehunt and Third Sloughs are very deep and should be crossed only on foot bridges provided.
