Mobility impaired trail relocated on Dave Donaldson Black River WMA

POCAHONTAS - The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has relocated a mobility-impaired access trail on Dave Donaldson Black River Wildlife Management Area. A field road leading to the Ricker Lane access trail has been closed due to property damage concerns of the local landowner. The field road had been used by the public as part of the AGFC mobility-impaired access trail.

A new access trail has been opened to the west of the Ricker Lane trail. The newly opened trail is located to the west of the now-closed lane, along the east side of Little River dam, near the Upper Island Green Tree Reservoir. The newly-designated trail head can be accessed via the Little River dam and campsite from Workcenter Road off of Arkansas Highway 280 near Brookings.

Due to interim flooding of the area, both the old trail and newly designated trail are seasonal at best. When overflow conditions exist, both trails are underwater and are no longer accessible by ATV.

AGFC staff have begun removing the designated trail signs from the old access and replaced them with "No Vehicle" signs. Signs along the new trail are being installed.
