Lake Poinsett access to temporarily close for repairs

HARRISBURG - The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will close the Lake Poinsett Dam Site Access Area beginning Sept. 29 to repair a drop-off at the end of the boat launching ramp. Boaters have alerted AGFC officials about the need for the repairs.

Boat launching and loading over the years have caused the gravel at the end of the ramp to wash away resulting in a severe drop-off that can damage boat trailers and inconvenience those boaters using the ramp.

The launching ramp will be extended by about 40 feet. This will allow sportsmen to use the ramp when the lake level is lower than normal. Repair work is expected to take about two weeks to complete and will cost around $20,000.  Fishermen wanting to use Lake Poinsett are encouraged to use the AGFC's Deckleman Access Area near Lake Poinsett State Park.
