Youth waterfowl hunt set for this weekend
LITTLE ROCK – The regular Arkansas duck season ended Jan. 26, but youth hunters will have two more days to pursue waterfowl this weekend.
The special youth waterfowl hunt will be Saturday and Sunday. On these days, hunters 15 and younger may harvest ducks, geese, coots, mergansers and gallinules. Youth hunters who have completed a hunter education course must be accompanied by a mentor 18 or older. Youth hunters who haven’t completed hunter education must be accompanied by a mentor 21 or older.
Mentors may not hunt, but may call waterfowl. Shooting hours and bag limits are the same as the regular duck and goose seasons. Arkansas Game and Fish Commission wildlife management areas will be open to hunting from 30 minutes before sunrise until sunset during the special youth waterfowl hunt. Sweet 16 WMA hunter-use permits are not required for youth hunters.
