LITTLE ROCK - The Army Corps of Engineers has issued a small craft advisory for the Arkansas River in Arkansas because recent heavy rains have caused flows to rise. During the high flows, strong currents and large debris can threaten the safety of pleasure craft. The advisory will be in effect throughout the Memorial Day weekend.
Flows at Trimble Lock and Dam at Fort Smith were about 135,000 cubic feet per second. Flows at Dardanelle Lock and Dam at Russellville are expected to climb to about 105,000 cfs. Flows at Murray Lock and Dam at Little Rock are expected to climb to 110,000 cfs today. Flows at Emmett Sanders Lock and Dam at Pine Bluff are expected to climb to about 110,000 cfs later today.
More rain could push flows higher or cause the advisory to remain in effect longer. Daily river information can be obtained on the Internet at www.swl-wc.usace.army.mil
