Arkansas elk harvest reaches record; herd growing
LITTLE ROCK – A record 44 elk were harvested during the 2012 hunting seasons, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission biologist Wes Wright noted during last week’s monthly meeting of the Commission.

Resolution points out wildlife officer’s heroics
LITTLE ROCK – Wildlife Officer Michael K. Neal was recognized for receiving the Medal of Valor with a resolution from the Arkansas House of Representatives at the State Capitol March 18.

River redhorse record falls at Lake Ouachita
HOT SPRINGS – The Arkansas record for largest river redhorse caught on rod and reel is 8 pounds, 2 ounces, taken by D. Victor Waits of Summit Mo. Waits was fishing in the Spring River April 18, 2006, when he set the record.

Little Rock Corps of Engineers launches water level app
LITTLE ROCK – The Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District recently launched a mobile App for fisherman, navigators, paddlers and park visitors. The App delivers current water conditions for Corps’ reservoirs, rivers and streams within the district boundaries to include the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System.

ASU takes top honors in collegiate shooting sports tournament
NORTH LITTLE ROCK – With support from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, one of the most competitive sporting events in the state is now available on the collegiate level. Earlier this month, the AGFC held the first Collegiate Shooting Sports Tournament.
