Commission sets 2012-13 deer hunting seasons in Arkansas
LITTLE ROCK – The upcoming deer hunting seasons for the state have been set by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. The seasons were approved at last week’s meeting of the Commission.

LITTLE ROCK – It is time to apply for the most desired ticket in the Arkansas outdoors – an elk hunting permit.

Cabot, Harrisburg squads snag AYSSP regional titles
LONOKE – Over 200 teams competed in this week’s Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports Program regional tournament. The Virginia City Marksmen from Cabot won the junior division and the Triple A team from Harrisburg won the senior division. The regional tournament was held April 27-28 at the Remington range near Lonoke.

Two prize fish landed on first day of Hot Springs fishing challenge HOT SPRINGS – Two of the 53 prize-winning fish were caught Tuesday on the first day of the $50,000 Hot Springs Fishing Challenge on Lakes Hamilton and Catherine.

Shrew not normally from Arkansas found in the Ozarks
LITTLE ROCK - In a recently published research paper in the Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science, researchers announced the identification in the Arkansas Ozarks of a species of shrew not previously known to exist in the state. The northern short-tailed shrew, which is generally distributed in the northern United States, was found in Madison, Newton, Pope, Sharp and Van Buren counties.
