CHIDESTER - The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has begun renovation of Lower White Oak Lake in Ouachita County. The first phase of the two-year project is underway with draining of the lake.
The extensive renovations include doubling the fish limits on the lake through April 2012, repeal of the largemouth bass slot limit, several extensive habitat restoration projects, repairing the damaged water control structure and restocking the fishery with Florida largemouth bass. As a result of the renovation project anglers can expect to experience a renewed lake fishery within a few years.
Boaters using the lake in 2012 should use extreme caution, as receding water levels will expose new hazards and make boat launching difficult at lower water levels.
None of these changes affect Upper White Oak Lake, which is located south of Arkansas Highway 387. If you have any questions or would like to obtain a tentative timeline of events for the renovation project, call the AGFC’s Camden Regional Office toll-free at 877-836-4612.
