NLR to host state bass fishing championship
North Little Rock will be host the inaugural Arkansas Student Angler Federation High School State Bass Fishing Championship in April. The event will bring high school students from across the state to central Arkansas to compete for the state crown.
Meetings scheduled for White River trout management plan
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Trout Management Program will revisit the management plan for the 7-mile trout fishery in the White River below Beaver Dam in northwestern Arkansas. The current management plan was developed about five years ago.
Permits for snow goose conservation season are online
The current Snow Goose Conservation Order requires a special permit for Arkansans and visitors to hunt the overabundant waterfowl. The permits are free, and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has made it easy for participants to get permits.
Producers can farm less and earn more
“Farm less, earn more” sounds crazy, right? But farm producers across the state lose money on cropland or pasture in many years. However, there are a number of options farm producers may choose to change their red ink to black on their balance sheets. They also can increase their financial bottom-line while improving their farm for fish and wildlife.
More than 79,300 pounds of fish stocked in January
Arkansas Game and Fish Commission crews stocked more than 308,700 fish in Arkansas lakes and rivers during January, according to Mark Oliver, chief of the Fisheries Division. The total stocking of fish weighed more than 79,300 pounds.
Great Backyard Bird Count begins Friday
Blackbirds made the headlines when a flock of thousands fell from the skies in Beebe New Year’s Eve. Now enthusiasts across the continent are counting the birds–not just blackbirds, but birds of more than 600 species–in the annual Great Backyard Bird Count. The event is Feb. 18-21 and will create an instantaneous snapshot of birdlife across the U.S. and Canada.
Teachers: Sign up students for Youth Outdoor Expo
Fifth-grade teachers in central Arkansas are encouraged to enroll their classes in the fifth Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Youth Outdoor Expo set for April 26-27 at Lake Sylvia Recreation Area in the Ouachita National Forest.
