St. Francis Lake gate repairs completed, lake begins to refill
A gate on a dam that helps form St. Francis Lake on part of the St. Francis Sunken Lands Wildlife Management Area malfunctioned earlier this week. The gate failure allowed the lake to drop about three feet. Permanent repairs have been completed and the water leak has been stopped.

Public input meetings rescheduled
Due to the inclement weather, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission postponed Tuesday night's public input meetings. The meetings have been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 8. Locations of the meetings are being confirmed and will be announced as soon as they are definite.

Small Arkansas River fish kill found near Ozark
Another freshwater drum kill has been reported on the Arkansas River near Ozark Lock and Dam. The most recent fish kill was reported Jan. 28. Unlike the previous kill Dec. 29, where more than 83,000 dead and dying fish were spotted on the surface of the river, this kill amounted to fewer than 500 fish.

Felsenthal and Overflow open for youth waterfowl hunt
Felsenthal and Overflow national wildlife refuges have decided to open the refuges on Feb. 5-6 for the state's youth waterfowl hunt.

Trapping instruction is available online and on DVDs
Trapping has been an activity in Arkansas since the days of the earliest explorers. Today, instructions on the basics of trapping are available through modern media - online and with a free DVD.
