Fishing Tip: As the cold weather continues, the best angling action revolves around deep-water crappie. To get to the fish, you need a boat with a good depth finder. Crappie will bunch up in large schools in extremely deep water, and can be caught quickly once the school is found. Look for large balls of suspended baitfish in the depth finder with large "arches" and streaks underneath. The arches are fish, and streaks indicate they are feeding. Position your boat directly over the school and drop a jig or spoon to just below the baitfish. Don’t jig the lure up and down, just keep it still and the fish will bite. Tip your jig or spoon with a minnow for the best action.
