Florida-strain bass bending rods at Lake Atkins
 
ATKINS - Lake Atkins in Pope County has been one of the top lakes to watch for the possibility of a new state record largemouth bass for the last decade. That search for massive bass intensified last week, when two largemouth in excess of 11 pounds were caught from the same fishing pier only a week apart.


AGFC adds 838 acres for outdoors enthusiasts in 2016
 
LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission expanded opportunities for hunters, anglers and wildlife watchers to the tune of 838 acres in 2016. This included a land donation of 61 acres for a new northwest Arkansas education center, 10 acres for a new access to Crooked Creek, and 767 acres of additions to existing wildlife management areas.


Archery in the Schools regional tournaments Feb. 11
 
LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas National Archery in the Schools Program’s 2017 regional tournaments will be held at a dozen schools throughout the state on Feb. 11. ANASP was established by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission in 2008 and has grown tremendously in those nine years. 


AGFC looking for partners to search for spotted skunks
 
LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is beginning a citizen-science project to establish the current range of spotted skunks in Arkansas, and is looking for volunteers to help. You don’t have to worry about coming home with a foul odor, as all the observation will be done via trail camera. 


Arkansas Sportshow offers second chance to celebrate deer season
 
JONESBORO – If you didn’t get a chance to visit the Arkansas Big Buck Classic in Little Rock last weekend, the Arkansas Sportshow offers another chance to enjoy the big bucks taken during this year’s deer season. The outdoors extravaganza will be Feb. 10-12 at the Arkansas State University Convocation Center in Jonesboro.
