JONESBORO – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will hold a public meeting on Sept. 15 to discuss the upcoming waterfowl season, St. Francis Sunken Lands Wildlife Management Area and recent changes in the practice of public maintenance. The WMA has sustained a great deal of damage caused by a historic flooding event. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Forrest L. Woods Crowley’s Ridge Nature Center in Jonesboro.

In the past, sportsmen were allowed to perform maintenance on public duck blinds and existing waterfowl holes on three WMAs, including St. Francis Sunken Lands WMA, in northeastern Arkansas. Due to past violations, that routine will no longer be allowed by the AGFC. Violations have included the illegal use of herbicides and excessive clearing of existing waterfowl openings.

The AGFC is working to fix the biggest problems on the WMA. Outdoorsmen are encouraged to provide the AGFC with input on any problem areas. Enforcement officers will be monitoring all state-owned waterfowl areas to ensure compliance.
