The Ponca Elk Education Center at Ponca invites you to join us for Karst Hydrogeology in the Buffalo River Watershed.
Dr. Van Brahana, Ph.D., P.G., will present key findings from his research project, “Karst Hydrogeology of the Buffalo National River (KHBNR).”
Dr. Brahana is a University of Arkansas Karst Hydrogeology Professor Emeritus, Research Scientist, and U.S. Geological Survey (retired). Dr. Brahana’s research is supported in part by a grant from the Patagonia Foundation to the Buffalo River Watershed Alliance (BRWA).
KHBNR is an ongoing independent research project that assesses and documents the water quality of surface and groundwater as it flows across and through karst substrata to the Buffalo National River. The project, designed and directed by Dr. Brahana, provides much needed data regarding water quality for the Buffalo River.
This workshop will feature a slide presentation and a hands-on rock identification activity for attendees to learn to recognize the types and layers of rock in the Ozark dome that create the beautiful bluff and cave karst formations in the watershed.
